The single use polythene bags are banned throughout India to save the environment from pollution. To find an alternative to polythene bags, a self-help group of women from Bhilgaon, Nagpur (Rural) had come up with an innovative idea to manufacturer low cost bags out of old sarees. Ms Priti, Sukeshini, Manisha and Nilima requested Human Metta Foundation to provide them two sewing machines as they couldn't afford to buy one of their own due to penury.
HMF supported them by donating a sewing machine to begin the work with. They got trained themselves and manufactured 50 bags in very short time and arranged to display them in a stall on 12/11/2019 at Nagloka on the eve of Kartik Pounima Day. The inauguration of the stall was done by Ayu. Tejdarshan in presence of Sarvashree Milind Bahadure, G. N. Nagrale, D. L. Kamble, Pradeep Matey, Dilip Nitnaware, P. T. Gawande and Padmakar Lamghare.
The response from the visitors was overwhelming as all the bags were sold out instantly. The venture has not only been useful to maintain the ecological balance but also beneficial for women to generate the income for the families.
